Robert Samuel Norero Sr., 68, an Air Force veteran and longtime resident of Morenci, AZ, passed away on May 16, 2025, in Tucson, AZ.
Robert was born on May 2nd, 1957, and raised in Los Angeles, CA by his parents, Samuel Montoya Norero and Paula (Prado) Norero. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Alamogordo, before later pursuing a career that would take him across the open road.
Following in his father's footsteps, Robert became a truck driver-something he was truly passionate about. He knew the highways by heart and loved the freedom of the road. He eventually owned a fleet of semi-trucks in California.
Robert was first married to his high school sweetheart, Rose Saborio Norero, and together they had three children: Pamela Castillo, Robert S. Norero Jr., and the late Stephanie Norero. After moving to Silver City, NM to work at Chino Mines, he met Betty Garcia, and they welcomed a son, Jeremy Norero.
Later, Robert made his home in Morenci, AZ, where he worked for Freeport-McMoRan mining company where he was able to continue his passion of driving until his passing. He enjoyed listening to music, being with his family and friends, and sharing stories from the road.
He is survived by his children: Pamela Castillo of Morenci, AZ, Robert Norero Jr. (Eva) of Gilbert, AZ, and Jeremy Norero (Serena) of Morenci, AZ. He is also survived by his brother Michael Norero (Terrie) and sister Paula Holguin (Leroy).
Robert's legacy lives on in his grandchildren: Rudy Castillo Jr., Timothy Castillo, Alexis Norero, Roxana Benanciao, Karlos Vasquez (Samantha), Samuel Norero, Nicholas Norero, Xavier Sarabia, Kalani Norero, Joseph Chavarria, and Tristan Villado and his great granddaughter Avery Castillo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Paula Norero; his daughter, Stephanie Norero; nephew, Stephen Norero; and niece, Marsha Norero.
Visitation will begin at ten o'clock in the morning Saturday, May 31, 2025 at the Infant Jesus Shrine in Hurley, NM. A Recitation of the Holy Rosary led by Deacon Art Gutierrez will be held at eleven o'clock. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Robert at eleven-thirty. Father Casmir Anozie will officiate. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Norero Family Cemetery in San Juan with full military honors accorded.
Pallbearers will be Robert S. Norero Jr., Jeremy Norero, Michael Norero, Nicholas Norero, Rudy Castillo Jr., Chris Vergara and honorary pallbearers Rudy Castillo Sr. and Freddy Bencomo
