Robert Nusbaum

September 3, 1939 – February 26, 2026

A life well lived, well-loved and full of joy and the struggles that help us to become stronger and more fully present. Robert (Bob) was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Bob had many hobbies that enjoyed over the years and was an avid outdoorsman and particularly loved to hunt (or just sit in a tree and enjoy nature). He also loved boating in the Chesapeake and looking at the ocean with his beloved wife. In his younger days, he enjoyed running, playing baseball, and driving fast and powerful cars!

Bob served in the U.S. Army from May 1963 to May 1965 in the Special Forces, working on airplanes and was proud to wear the Green Beret. He was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC and his stories were always nifty to hear.

As an adult, he was an excellent bowler, until his two daughters and the hard work of providing for family made him too busy. When he retired, 25 years ago, he had a blast bowling in Florida with his siblings. Bob also really loved to travel, especially car trips with his family; recently, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee was a favorite place to explore.

Bob loved his wife Virginia, his daughters, Sandy and Susan, his granddaughters, Cindy and Nicole, and his grandsons, Matthew and Nicholas. He was a hard worker and really stayed in motion most of the time, unless he was napping. The man had a real affinity for a nap! An interesting fact about Bos is that he had a deep curiosity about the world and he truly was a lifelong learner, with an open mind and views that were malleable if the situation warranted it.

Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Virginia, his daughters, granddaughters and grandsons, his sisters Fanny and Kathy, and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine Smith and Nicholas J. Nusbaum Sr., and his brothers Nicholas Nusbaum, John Nusbaum, Larry Nusbaum and Frank Smith Sr.

He will be so missed.
