Robert O'Neal Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Usrey Brown Funeral Service on Dec. 19, 2025.
Robert Yongue O'Neal, 77, of Vincent, AL, passed away at his home on Monday, December 15, 2025. A funeral ceremony will be held in his honor at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega with Michael Russell officiating. His family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow directly after the ceremony at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. O'Neal was a native of Talladega and spent most of his life there. He was in the United States Marine Corp. from 1969 until 1971 during which time he served in the Vietnam War. Robert retired from the City of Talladega after many years of service at the water and sewer treatment plant. After retirement, he continued work for many years at Graves Service Company and Morrow Water Technology. He was a lifetime member of First Methodist Church of Talladega and the Kate Clardy Sunday School Class, but he was currently attending Salem Presbyterian Church. He loved volunteering at the church where he drove the church van for many years and was also an usher. Well known for his exceptional gardening skills, the entire community looked forward to purchasing fresh produce and the best pumpkins from him every year. Mr. O'Neal was an avid dog lover, especially his dog, Lucy. A hardworking, Christian man, he will be missed greatly by his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dianne B. O'Neal, and parents, Clarence and Winnie O'Neal.

Mr. O'Neal is survived by his son, Howard O'Neal (DeeDee); daughters, Brandy O'Neal, Jennifer Barclay (John), and Catherine O'Neal; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ann Sauls (John); brother, Hugh O'Neal (Jan), and a host of nieces and nephews.

Derek Pierce, Del Clayton, Aaron Clayton, Eric Burrage, John Porter, and Shannon McDougal will serve as pallbearers.

Leon DeBardelaben, Matt Glasscock, and all current and former employees of the Talladega Water and Sewer Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Robert's family would like to extend a special thank you to his caregivers, Peggy, Peaches (Vera), Mae, Emma, and Candace.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. O'Neal's family asks that donations be made in his memory to Salem Presbyterian Church at 10068 Renfroe Road, Alpine, AL 35014 or at www.salemchurchpca.org, or to New London Volunteer Fire Department at 4040 Logan Martin Dam Road, Cropwell, Alabama, 35054.
