Robert Michael "Bob" O'Toole

Robert Michael O'Toole (Bob), 84, of Alexandria, Virginia passed away peacefully with family by his side on May 10th, 2025, and was buried soon after in Chatham, Massachusetts which was home to many cherished memories with family and friends.
Bob was raised in Revere, Massachusetts along with his brother Steve by parents Olga and Edward O'Toole.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Phyllis Kearney; daughter Stephanie (Kelly), sons Rob (Sherry) and Paul (Jenni); six adored grandchildren: Eleanor, Kylie, Cade, Owen, Gabriel, and Kayla; brother Steve, Sister-in-Law Liz, and nieces Jessica and Megan as well as extended family and many dear friends.
Bob graduated from Immaculate Conception High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Saint Anselm College.
Bob began his career at the Veterans Administration as a real estate appraiser. He was quickly promoted and by 1982, became the 4 th VA Loan Guaranty Service Director in program history. He joined the Mortgage Bankers Association of America (MBA) in 1987 as the Senior Staff Vice President of Government Relations overseeing MBA's interactions with all federal housing agencies including Departments of Treasury, HUD, and VA. Bob worked tirelessly throughout his career to expand homeownership to as many veterans and deserving Americans as possible. Bob retired from his executive role at MBA in 2001.
Bob adored his family and cherished his lifelong friendships including his buddies from college, friends from Mount Vernon Country Club, where he served as President, and those from his many church, volunteer, and community activities over the years. He was a dedicated coach to his children in many sports as they were growing up in Lake Ridge, Virginia and was a frequent spectator and enthusiastic supporter to his grandchildren's activities.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2pm on Wednesday, May 28th at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alexandria, Virginia with a reception to follow at Mount Vernon Country Club from 3:30pm - 6:30pm.
