Robert Leonard Okray of Troy died May 7, 2024. He was 81 years old. Robert was born February 9, 1943, in Detroit to Mary (nee Kumiega) and Leonard Okray.
He graduated from Corpus Christi Elementary School in Detroit and Orchard Lake St. Mary's High School. He received his degree in accounting from Walsh College and was an owner and partner at a CPA firm.
As a soda jerk at Brody's, Robert met his future wife, Peggy Stankiewicz. He won her over by making her chocolate Coke.
Robert was a devout Catholic belonging to St. Anastasia after St. Anne. He loved golf and spending time in Caseville with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching all sports, playing cards and polka dancing.
Awarded Volunteer of the Year for Warren Chamber of Commerce in 2001, Robert strongly believed in volunteering and giving back. Whether it was at St. Anne Sausage Festival, Board of Directors for Warren Chamber of Commerce 2000-2004 or advice to friends and family, Robert was always giving back to others. He was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Peggy Ann and children, Marielle (Joe) Deighan, Rebecca (John) Elliott, and Jason (Heather) Okray. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Franklin, Stosh, Clem Deighan, Nolan Elliott, and Marley Lange, sister, Carolyn Sherwood and brother, Lenny (Jacki) Okray. Robert was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Mary and brother, George (Linda Kriss) Okray.
Visitation will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks, Clawson, Thursday, May 9th, 3-7pm. Rosary 3:30pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, 4571 John R, Troy, Friday, May 10th, at 11am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10:30am. Burial will follow in White Chapel Cemetery, Troy.
