Robert William Oliver, age 91, of Eagles Mere and Sun City Center, FL, passed away on July 30, 2025, with his loving family at his side.

Bob was born in Rochester, NY on March 10, 1934, the son of the late William Walter Oliver and Virginia Ranier Oliver. He graduated from the Rush Henrietta High School as a member of the class of 1952. He graduated from St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY with a MA and from George Washington University in Wash., DC with his PhD. While at St. Lawrence Univ. he met his wife the former Kathleen F. Murphy of Wash., DC. She predeceased him on April 2, 2005, after 44 years of marriage.

Bob served in the US Army during the Korean War. He taught and then became the Asst. Superintendent of Schools in DeKalb, NY. He later became the Executive Director of the American Association of Podiatric Medicine in Wash., DC, and then the Executive Director of the American Association of Osteopathic Medicine in Wash., DC. During his time in DC, Bob was very involved with the PBOE and was the former Exalted Ruler of Bethesda Lodge. In 1975 he and Kathleen purchased the Eagles Mere Inn, in Eagles Mere, PA. They built up the business and sold the inn 1981.

Bob was instrumental in the formation of the Laporte Medical Center, persuading Dr. Barth, president of P.C.O.M. to open the clinic in Laporte. As the Crestmont Hotel had been razed, Bob and Kathleen purchased the old hotel laundry, renovated and created the Crestmont Inn in Eagles Mere. He later purchased the adjoining property where the hotel stood and built the Crestmont Condominiums. They retired in 2001 to Washington, DC.

Bob married the former Frances Gilman Desmond Oliver in Florida in 2006. Frances predeceased Bob on August 23, 2014.

Bob was a member of the Eagles Mere Community Church and the Eagles Mere Lions Club. He was a member and past board member of the Eagles Mere Country Club where he served as the chairperson of building and grounds for seven years. Bob scored twenty-one holes-in-one, eight of which were at the Eagles Mere CC. When active in business, he engaged in the invigoration of the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce, where he served as President. He was also active with the Area Agency on Aging, and the Sullivan County Victims Services organizations. He also served as the Mayor of Eagles Mere.

Surviving are son Kevin M. (Astrid) Oliver, Durango, Co. Three daughters: Maureen E. (Linwood) Myers, Muncy Valley, PA, Eileen C. Oliver, San Antonio, TX, Karen A. (Douglas) Rider, Eagles Mere, PA. Four grandchildren, Danielle McGarry (Edward), Patrick Myers (Emily), Anna Myers, and Genevieve Oliver, one niece (Jill) and two nephews (Jackie and Rusty). He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret (Peggy) Miller and brother-in law Jack Miller and grandson, Garrett Oliver.

Funeral Services will be held at the Eagles Mere Community Church on Friday August 15th, 2025, at 11AM, with the Rev. Sarah Weedon, Officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11AM. Interment will be at the Eagles Mere Cemetery. Graveside Military Services will be accorded by members of the Honor’s Detail of the US Army.

In lieu of flowers contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to Eagles Mere Community Church, PO Box 304, Eagles Mere, PA 17731.
