Bob. Robert. Bobby. DJ Bob. He was known by many names, by many people, all who happened to love him. A man who dedicated his life to the city of Owatonna, he worked at local establishments downtown and committed to them for many years. Most notably, he spent 29 of his 49 years working at Nick's Pizza Palace. He was also a resident DJ of two different longstanding downtown bars, It's 5 O'clock Somewhere and Reggie's Brewhouse, a combined 20 years between the two. It was there that he found his niche, his people, his chosen family. He started to feel people through music. He would know exactly what to play, for whom, and when the time was right. DJ Bob wasn't just a guy who took requests, he was a person who felt every single moment everyone else had, knew exactly what to play to emphasize those moments, and made every person who crossed his path feel seen.
Beyond his talent and appreciation for all things music, movies, and the Owatonna pool community, Bob will be remembered most for his kindness and how genuine he was. He had a game or a silly inside joke with most everyone that he encountered, including Team Bob, the pool team he captained for many years. Ask anyone who knew him, it's pretty much a guarantee....Bob won. He was always ready for a prank, a listening ear, or a song to cheer you up. He never took life too seriously, and always made time, effort, and had a way of lightening the mood for anyone who needed it.
As we say goodbye, we want to celebrate the life of a man who made his mark by simply being real, kind, and sharing his passions with anyone he could. Life might suddenly be less exciting, less silly, and less musically inclined, but inside every heart that knew Bob...his song lives on.
