Robert E. Pachico, 87, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2024 in the comfort of his family. He was the husband of Jeanne Pachico, the love of his life, who passed away in 2019.
He was born on March 1, 1937, at home on Summer Street in Tisbury, Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. Bob was the youngest child of John A. Pachico and Marjorie (Lewis). He attended Tisbury High School, and upon graduation he joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. Returning from the army, he helped his father in the family owned John's Fish Market, which is still in operation today.
Bob moved to Newport, RI with his young family in 1963, where he went to work for Raytheon, while also tending bar at The Strike Zone for several years. Bob later went on to become a Deputy Sheriff for the State of RI in the Newport Court House, a job he loved, retiring after 25 years of service. After retiring, he enjoyed helping his son Mark (with the jobs and hours of his choosing) at Frosty Freez.
Bob was an avid fisherman and enjoyed all the abundances the ocean had to offer. There was not a fish, snail or shellfish he didn't love. He often would gather his family around, line the table with newspaper and dump his catch of blue crabs or lobster on the table for everyone to enjoy. He was a fantastic cook, well known for his stuffies, clam chowder and Portuguese kale soup. He also loved the Red Sox, the Celtics and the Patriots.
Bob is survived by his children Mark Pachico (Kim), Elizabeth Cunningham (David), Kristin Guyette (Jeff), and his step son, Garrett Libby. He leaves his five grandchildren, Robert and Greg Pachico, Kayla Murphy (Terry), Courtney and Ryan Cunningham, and his great grandchildren, Brynn and Wyatt Murphy. He also leaves his siblings, Priscilla Estrella of Florida, and Grace "Bunny" Oliver of Martha's Vineyard.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne, his brothers, John Pachico Jr and Ernest Pachico, and his sister, Laura Welty.
Calling hours will be held Monday, July 15, 2024, from 4:00-6:00pm at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
