Dr. Robert W. Peete, 67, of Decatur, passed away October 28, 2012 after an extended illness. Dr. Peete requested a private family service, which is to be held at a later time in honor of his request.

Dr. Peete was born in Decatur to the late Bert E. Peete and Juanita Frank Peete. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bert E. Peete Jr.

Dr. Peete grew up in Athens and graduated from Athens High School. He was a graduate of Auburn University and The University of Alabama School of Medicine. Robert joined the United States Air Force as a captain and was a member of the 15th TRS. He was a Flight Medicine Chief/Flight Surgeon at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa during the Vietnam War. He was the OIC of Military Public Health and Occupational Medicine. He participated in emergency air rescue missions with the 33rd ARRSq, demonstrating a high degree of professionalism in stressful situations. Robert was also a Commander of a Squadron Medical Element, and a permanent member of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Board. He performed duties as a Medical Group Leader on a 5AF Aircraft Accident Investigation Board. He demonstrated superior ability, judgment and skill in the accomplishment of all assigned tasks resulting in a meaningful and significant contribution to the overall safety posture of his command and to the United States Air Force.

Dr. Peete was a successful Otolaryn-gologist in Decatur from 1978 to 2002. He attended Calvary Assembly of God in Decatur.

Dr. Peete was a founding member of the Med-Surg Surgical Center in Decatur. After retiring in 2002, he was involved with the Sav-A-Life Foundation.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Deborah Peete; three sons, Rob Peete (Stephanie) of Cheyenne, Wyo, John Peete of Columbus, Ga., and David Peete of Decatur; three grandsons, Nathaniel of Troy, Cameron and Braeden, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; one brother, Frank Peete (Lynn) of Athens; and one sister Diana Owens, of Athens.
