Robert Leonard Pegrum

Robert Leonard Pegrum slipped away into the hands of God after a happy and fulfilling life on Sunday, June 18, 2023 - a gift from God, returning to God. Bob was the beloved husband of the late Jeanne Pegrum, the love and light of his life for close to 66 years. Dedicated to his wife and family, he was the loving father of Janet (Ed), Steven (Hillary) and Scott (Cynthia). He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Susan. Bob was the cherished grandfather of Karen, Brittany, Jennifer, Drew, John, Eric, Christopher, Devon and Katrina and a proud and loving great grandfather to Felix, Olivia, Everly, Sawyer, Lucy, Alina, Kai and Adelyn. Bob was the dear brother of Beryl (Fred) Watts of Bexhill-On-Sea, England and a loving uncle to Karen and Jeff Watts.
Graduating and working as an electrical engineer in poverty stricken England following the war years, Bob met Jeanne at a dance studio and married her 3 years later. Following a conscription into the RAF for 2 years of compulsory service in Malaya, he returned to work in London under continued rationing that made life hard. Bob and Jeanne decided to emigrate to Canada in search of better prospects, arriving in Quebec City on April 14, 1957 amidst a snowstorm that almost sent them back to England. Struggling and lonely at first, they soon found jobs and made lifetime friends that helped them through those early years. Bob lived life to its fullest making the most of the great outdoors with his growing family. He loved sailing, camping, hiking, skiing, gardening, singing in the church choir and being part of his church family. He was always generous and willing to help regardless of whether it was family, a member of his church family or a neighbour and soon becoming the trusted repairman. He was an avid supporter of any activity that his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were involved in. The game of Farkle, around the dinner table, with Great Grampa Bob will long be a cherished memory.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Ave, (at Richmond Rd.), Ottawa on Monday, July 10, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at City View United Church, 6 Epworth Avenue, Ottawa on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow.
