Robert Lee Phelps, known to many as Bobby, gained his wings peacefully on November 9th at his home with family by his side. Born June 4, 1939, in Holland, VA to Wilbur Lee and Helen Bloxom Phelps. Robert is predeceased by his parents; first love of his life and mother of his children, Carolyn Phelps; brothers, James Lawrence, John Edward; and sisters, Wilbur Jean Stokes and Catherine Lawson Stokes.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Paulette Phelps; daughter, Kimberly Lewis (John); son, Gregory Phelps (Pam); grandchildren, Brandon and Ryan Lewis, Benjamin, Abigail, Anna and Hudson Phelps; stepchildren, Floyd Byrd (Sharon), and Paula Adolph; step grandchildren, Nicholas (Melinda), Taylor (Mike), Katie (Ryan), Chris (Mary Kate), and Kelsey (Zack); and great grandchildren, Nicholas, Scarlet, and Tim Adolph, Brayden Smith, Nicholas Ricks, and Reed Byrd.
Robert worked hard as a boy going to work at Hydraulic Services Inc. as a salesman and had a strong work ethic to provide for his family. After retiring from Hydraulic Services, he began his own business, Hampton Roads Industrial Supply, where he worked for 12 more years.
Robert loved his family and the Lord and served Him as a faithful shepherd. Special thanks to Gentiva Hospice in Elizabeth City and their staff Quay, Vernell, and Maddie. Also, to the caregivers, Laura, Lanese, Rosann, and Doreen, a special thank you for the care and compassion that was provided for Robert.
Services will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 3920 Airline Blvd, Chesapeake, VA with burial after the service on Thursday, November 13th at 2 pm. Memorial donations may be sent to the charity of your choice.
