Robert J. "Bobby" Pilz, 28, of Spencer, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2025 at Marshfield Medical Center-Marshfield. Robert was born October 4, 1997, to Steve and Venita Pilz in Kotzebue, Alaska. He started his education journey at Ambler Elementary in Alaska before the family moved to
Spencer, Wisconsin where he completed grades 1-12 at Spencer Public Schools. After graduation, he attended UW-Stout in Menomonee for four years and was a pitcher on their baseball team for three seasons.
As a teenager, Bobby worked at McDonald's in Marshfield and later at Subway in Spencer and Menomonee. He worked a couple summers at Wiskerchen Cheese near Auburndale and umpired youth baseball for several summers in Spencer and officiated many youth and JV basketball games around the area.
Bobby had a true love for sports-on and off the field. He played baseball and basketball and never missed a chance to watch the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, or Milwaukee Bucks. He was also a big fan of UFC fighter Israel Adesanya. When he wasn't watching or playing sports, Bobby enjoyed chess, fishing, music, and just hanging out with his teammates and buddies.
Bobby was a talented athlete and a valued member of several baseball and basketball teams throughout his youth. He played with the Gary Varsho Baseball Program (ages 9–14), Marshfield Junior Legion Post 54 Baseball (age 15), Marshfield Senior Legion Post 54 Baseball (ages 15–18), and later the Marshfield Chaparrals. His dedication and skill earned him numerous honors, including Cloverbelt East Player of the Year in both basketball and baseball in 2015, multiple First Team All-Conference selections in both sports, Channel 7 All-Star recognition in basketball in 2016, and Honorable Mention All-State Basketball honors that same year (WBCA Coaches). He was also named to the UW–Stout Honor Roll during the first semester of 2016–2017.
His faith journey included dedication at Ambler Friends Church (Ambler, Alaska), baptism at St. John's Lutheran Church (North) in Spencer, and confirmation at Christ Lutheran Church in Marshfield.
Those who will cherish his memory forever include his loving parents, Steve and Venita Pilz of
Spencer, WI; his uncle, Jeff (Laurie) Pilz of Luxemburg, WI; his Auntie Butsy of Anchorage, AK and his Grammamom, Mamie (Eddie) of Anchorage, AK along with many other relatives, friends, classmates, and teammates.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Angela Rose; his Grandma Lucy and his Uncle Bob.
In lieu of flowers, the Pilz Family is accepting memorials in Bobby's name for the creation of The Bobby Pilz Memorial Athletic Scholarship for graduating seniors at Spencer High School.
The Pilz Family extends their deepest appreciation to the staff of Life Tributes Funeral Home–Spencer. We are especially grateful to Chris, Elisha, and the care team for their professionalism, compassion, and friendship during this difficult time.
