Robert Eugene Pitner passed away from pneumonia on August 19, 2025, at the age of 80 in Sacramento, California surrounded by loved ones. An unforgettable presence to everyone he met, his loss will be felt by all those who had the good fortune of meeting him.
Robert was born on December 9, 1944, in Stratton, Nebraska to Albert F. Pitner and Emmeline A. McEvoy, was raised in Dubois, Wyoming and spent his adult life in California. Bob, as he was known to his family and friends, successfully pursued more careers than most and lived more lives than any cat has or will likely ever see. His greatest asset was his gift of gab which gave him the ability to make lasting and meaningful relationships everywhere he went. He was an artisan, a philosopher, a traveler, a chef, a salesman, a real estate agent, a counselor, an outdoorsmen, a connoisseur, a country music fan, a well-dressed man, and a lover of all things good in this world. He could make anyone laugh and loved doing so.
The most important person in his life and his biggest champion was his loving wife, Paulette who passed away shortly before Bob after battling cancer. For over 30 years, Bob and Paulette shared their lives with each other and in turn with all of us. Their love, affection and respect for each other ran deeper than any ocean and served as a model for how to succeed in marriage. Their get-togethers were legendary to all who knew them and the loss of them both makes this world feel a little smaller and less colorful. Bob and Paulette were two halves of the same whole and their spirits will be forever entwined across the cosmos.
Bob is survived by his brothers Joe and John and John’s wife, Anna, his sister Diane and Diane’s husband Joe, his sisters-in-law Carole, and Vickie and Vickie’s wife, Rhonda, his children, Tony, Gina and Gina’s husband Tom, Tammi and Tammi’s wife Dori, his grandchildren Armand, Nicole and Nicole’s husband John, Casey and Casey’s wife Monika, his great grandchildren Johnny, Jack, and Emma, and more nephews, nieces, cousins and friends than you can shake a stick at. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Emmeline, his loving and unforgettable wife Paulette, his brother Jim, his sister Carol, his sister-in-law Helen, and his daughter Tracey.
A funeral will be held on November 13, 2025, at 11:00 am at St. Patrick Church in Placerville, California followed by a memorial service at Westwood Hills Memorial Park in Placerville, California. Family and friends are welcome to attend to honor and celebrate Bob’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and the Cancer Research Institute, in Bob’s memory.
“You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.” – Johnny Cash
