Robert Eugene "Gene" Poppell Sr.

Robert Eugene "Gene" Poppell, Sr., age 74, of Savannah, GA passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
Gene was born on May 11, 1949 in Savannah, GA, the son of the late Hallie "Sweetheart" and Rev. Allen "Pop" Poppell, Sr. He was a 1967 graduate of H.V. Jenkins High School and attended Brunswick Junior College. Gene and his brothers owned Poppell Brothers where they served the Low Country's flooring needs for nearly 60 years. He was a member of Compassion Christian Church. In addition to his passion for hard work, he loved cutting grass on his riding lawn mower and spending time with his family.
Gene Poppell was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Joan Gibson Poppell; and his brothers, David L. Poppell, Sr. and Allen Q. Poppell, Jr. He is survived by his children, Raegan Dillon (Jimmy), Rob Poppell (Marianne), Adam Poppell (Melissa), and Marne Poppell; brother, Johnny Poppell (Paula); sisters-in-law, Carolyn Poppell and Nancy Poppell; grandchildren, Joshua Dillon (Erin), Hailie Poppell (J.T. Williams), Dalton Poppell, Nick Dillon, Timmy Dillon, Kate Poppell, Lawson Poppell, Daniel Dillon, Brady Poppell, and Palmer Poppell; and great grandchildren, JJ Dillon and Evie Dillon.
A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 7375 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406. The family will be receiving friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
