Robert D. "Bob" Popple Sr., 82, of Canastota, NY, passed away unexpectedly, on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. Bob was born in Canastota, NY, to Clyde and Martha Popple (James). He attended Canastota Central Schools. After school, he joined the US Armed Forces, and served in the Army until his honorable discharge.
After his time in the Army, he spent the majority of his career working as a drywall finisher for the IUPAT District Council 4 Local 31 Union. Bob had a passion for car races, snow mobile riding, hunting, fishing, the outdoors, traveling with his wife, and helping others. He frequented Flo's Diner in Canastota, NY, and the patrons and staff of Flo's Diner considered him a part of their family. He was the driving force behind the creation of their car show, which they renamed in his memory to be, "The Bob Popple Memorial Car and Bike Cruise In."
Bob was predeceased by his brother, James Epperson, and his parents.
Bob is survived by his wife of 43 years, Louise Popple (Church); five children, Correen (Jorge) Pounds, James (Michelle) Popple, Kristen (Randy S.) Rapasadi, Gregg (Kittie) Popple, Robert (Amber) Popple Jr.; two stepchildren, Sandra (Christopher) Jones and Jeffrey (Heidi) Peryer; eleven grandchildren, Michael (Jamie), Eric (Ashley), Travis (Shelby), Ryan, Karter, Alyssa, Gabrielle, Anthony, Holly, Rebecca, Alexis; four great-grandchildren, Grace, Elizabeth, Olive, and Nora; his sister, Barbara Buyea (Popple); and his former wife and mother of his children, Rita Simmons (Niles). As well as several Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Brown's Rusty Pond, 8905 Morris Road, Canastota. The event will take place from 4:00-8:00 PM. Military Honors and a brief remembrance service will take place at 5:00 PM led by Pastor Donna Chapman. Those who wish to pay tribute to Bob are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions or donations to his surviving spouse, Louise Popple.
