Robert Michael "Mike" Portzen

The incomparable Robert Michael "Mike" Portzen, age 72, was chosen by God to enter the Kingdom of Heaven on July 7, 2024. Mike was born on March 3, 1952, in La Plata MD.
Mike's career in the asphalt business started with his father at the age of 15. He continued as a superintendent for Arundel Asphalt until he and his brothers started Portzen Brothers Asphalt in 1983. He lived and breathed asphalt, if Mike was not giving estimates or paving, he was spending time with his grandchildren. The Legacy continues through Asphalt Specialist ran by his sons and family. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone he could. He loved bird watching from all his feeders. Some of his most enjoyable moments were giving flowers to the most loved women in his family all the time no matter the occasion. He was a big history buff and loved watching old movies.
Mike is survived by his wife Pamela Jean Portzen, sister Sandra Lee Burch, brother Patrick Allen Portzen Sr, son Michael Robert Portzen, Daughter, Jamie Lynn Hare and husband (Brian Hare), Son Christopher William Portzen and wife (Jennifer Portzen), grandchildren: Caitlyn Michael Hare, Kyle Lee Portzen, Brooke Marie Portzen, James Connor (Nonnor) Hare, Abigaile (Abbie) Paige Portzen, one great granddaughter and a host to devoted aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his father Robert Henry Portzen and mother Margaret Lee Portzen; sister Deborah Ann Coleman; and brothers James Ronald "Rooster" Portzen, Joseph Richard "Ricky" Portzen and Timothy Louis "Timmy" Portzen.
Mike stands out in our hearts as a reminder of strength, perseverance, love, and compassion. Though we will mourn Mike's loss daily, we know we will be reunited in time.
Visitation will take place at Raymond Funeral Home, 5635 Washington Ave, La Plata MD, on Tuesday July 16, 2024 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, with a prayer service at 7pm.
A final goodbye will be held at Raymond Funeral service chapel at 10am on Wednesday July 17, 2024, than proceed to the interment site at St. Peter's Church Cemetery, Waldorf MD at 11am.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Portzen Sr, Mike Bingaman, Harold Knott, Jimmy Brown, Tracy DeMarr, and Brendan Huff.
