Robert F. Powers Sr., 93, husband of the late Gladys (Whalen) Powers, passed away on April 3, 2025, at Hathorne Hill in Danvers where he resided for the past 4 years.
Born in Salem, the son of the late John T. Powers and Mary (Healey) Powers he was educated in the Salem public school system. Bob was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War on several different warships, but the USS New Jersey was his favorite. One of his fondest memories was being asked by the ships captain to represent his country and sing at the cathedral in Seville, Spain during a shared U.S. - Spanish catholic mass. Music was an important part of his life and he enjoyed singing with the Beverly Men's Glee Club and Barbershop Quartet.
He spent his entire adult work life working at GTE Sylvania as an accounts manager where he made several lifelong friends. He was a proud man who always put family first. He and Gladys loved to travel, watch sports, and spend time with friends. He will be remembered for his beautiful smile, kind and compassionate demeanor and unwavering friendship.
In addition to his wife, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage, he is survived by his daughter Mary Collier and her husband Scott of York, ME, two sons, Robert F. Powers Jr., and his wife Heather of Sarasota, FL and William J. Powers and his girlfriend Lynne Keithley of Lakeland, FL, and five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, and godchildren. He is preceded in death by his brother J. Donald Powers.
The family would like to thank all their family & friends for their overwhelming generosity by opening their hearts and homes over the years as well as the staff at Hathorne Hill for their loving care.
His funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant Street, Danvers on Thursday, April 10th at 10 am.
