Robert Pretty Obituary

With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Robert Stewart Pretty, a beloved son, brother, and friend, who left us far too soon on June 7, 2025, at the age of 40. Affectionately known as Stu, Stewy, or Stewart, he was a proud lifelong resident of Carroll County and a 2002 graduate of North Carroll High School. At the time of his passing, he was employed at FR Conversions in Westminster. To his family and friends, Stu was a rock-steadfast, loyal, and a constant source of laughter and love. The embodiment of "Mr. Fix It," Stu could repair just about anything. He loved working with his hands and spent much of his free time tinkering with cars, helping with home projects, or riding his beloved scooter-affectionately known as Scooty. Though he often called himself a recluse or loner, Stu's presence lit up every room. His infectious laugh, sharp wit, and warm spirit made him unforgettable. He faced many struggles in life, yet he met them with resilience, courage, and a relentless will to keep going. He was living proof of the power of redemption and second chances. Stu approached life with joy, humility, and deep gratitude. His absence leaves an unfillable void, but those who knew him will always cherish the time they had, the memories they shared, and the example he set-of kindness, perseverance, and grace. He was predeceased by his parents, Eleanor Bechler and Gary Pretty; his uncle Keith Pretty; and his grandparents Della and Larry Roloson, and Robert "Bob" Pretty. Stu is survived by his loving sister and brother-in-law, Jenna and Christopher Hadley; his aunts and uncles Candie and Frank Young , Jr. Roloson, and Beth and Stephen Markle and children Benjamin and Grace; his grandmother Frances Pretty. He is also survived by his cousins Sarah and Brad Young, and their children Jack and Harper; and Lily Roloson, and children Corrine and Conrad. In addition, Stu leaves behind a wide and cherished circle of friends and extended family, all of whom will carry his memory and legacy in their hearts. A Celebration of Life for Stu will be held at Eline Funeral Home 934 South Main Street, Hampstead, MD on Saturday, June 14th, with visitation at 11:00 AM and service at 12:00 PM. Family and friends are warmly invited to a reception afterward from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Panther Park in Hampstead, located off Dakota and Christopher Road. Online condolences may be made at

Stu, you've left a huge hole in our hearts that will never be filled. I was proud to have you be a part of our family. It will never be the same without you at the dinner table at Thanksgiving and Christmas. We will keep an eye on Jenna for you. Thank you for being Chris's rock. This pain will take a long time to heal from. Fly high sweet Stu. You will forever be in our hearts.
