Dr. Robert McLain "Bob" Reed, 93, of Hondo passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Friday, April 25, 2025.
He was born in Wheeler, TX, on Jan. 23, 1932, and was raised in Fayetteville, AR.
Having graduated from Oklahoma Military Academy in 1950, he joined the U.S. Navy and served as a Navy corpsman with the First Marine Division during the Korean War. Upon his discharge from the miliary, he moved to Dallas TX where he met and married Grace Ringle, who became his wife of 70 years. In 1963, after graduating from Baylor Dental School, the family moved to Castroville where he set up the first dental practice there. He practiced dentistry there for 33 years, retiring in 1996.
He was a member of the American Dental Association for 60 years, Gideons International, Prison Fellowship, American Legion, the Experimental Aircraft Association, Boy Scouts, and other community organizations.
Robert loved Jesus Christ and served him faithfully.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dr. Arthur Chester Reed and wife Ann.
Bob is survived by his wife, Grace; children, James Reed (Susan), Thomas Reed (Jay), Mark Reed (Pam) and Laura Berggren (Andy); 11 grandchilden and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m., followed by funeral service at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 5, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hondo. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Castroville.
The family suggests memorials may be made to Gideons International; St. Paul Lutheran Church; or a charity of your choice.
