He was born in Methuen, Massachusetts on August 17,1969, the son of Paul and Ellen Joy (Shields) Riess.Rob moved to New Hampshire at age three, was educated in Plymouth Schools, and was a 1987 graduate of Plymouth High School. After graduation, he was employed by Construx.

He found his greatest happiness in the everyday moments spent with those he loved.

He was a devoted husband and proud, loving father; his presence, guidance, and unconditional love shaped their lives in ways that will never be forgotten, and his love will guide them always. To his wife, he was her partner, her friend, her constant, and her greatest love, and he will be missed beyond words.

He is survived by his beloved his wife, Catherine (Sanborn) Riess, who was the love of his life; his daughter, Alyssa Riess; and his son, Joseph Riess, He is also survived by his brother Michael Riess and wife Martha, and their son Scott Riess and Fiancée Christina Brewington; brother Pat Riess and wife Cindy and family; and sister Darlene 'Dolly" Riess and husband Ed Penn and family.
