Robert Risch Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes - Laingsburg Chapel on Apr. 16, 2025.
Robert James "Sam" Risch, aged 76, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, at the University of Michigan – Sparrow Campus. The visitation will be held to celebrate his life and legacy from 1-3:00 PM on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, 203 East First North St., Laingsburg, MI 48848.
Born on August 2, 1948, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Sam was a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend. Sam's life was one marked by kindness, intelligence, and a remarkable ability to fix anything he put his hands on.
Raised in a busy household by Arthur and Dorothy (Engel) Risch, Sam's childhood was filled with the warmth and hard work that only a large family can provide. In 1965, the Risch family moved from Wisconsin to a farm in Michigan, a place that would become a cornerstone of Sam's life. He grew up alongside his nine siblings, learning the value of working hard, camaraderie, and the joy of simple pleasures.
A graduate of the Flint School for the Deaf, Sam had determination and with the help of his siblings, he navigated the world with a quiet but unwavering confidence. Sam's work ethic was evident in his career at Clark Engineering in Owosso, where he retired after many years of dedicated service.
Sam's interests were as varied as they were unique. He found solace in the company of his favorite television shows and his hands were rarely still, as he was often found tinkering with something that needed repair. His knack for fixing things extended beyond the mechanical; he had a way of mending spirits with his infectious humor and playful teasing.
A true compassionate soul, Sam shared a special bond with the animals on the family farm. They responded to his gentle demeanor and seemed to enjoy his presence, a harmony that was beautiful to witness. His intellectual curiosity was also showcased in his fondness for the Rubik's Cube, a puzzle he could solve with impressive skill.
Sam's legacy is carried on by his loving siblings, Lois (Tony) Bauer and Thomas (Kayleen) Risch; his caring sisters-in-law, Agnes O'Leary, Julia Risch, Teri Risch, and Kathy Risch; and a host of nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Art and Dorothy, and his siblings, Art Risch, Ronnie O'Leary, Bonnie (Jim) Bauer, Sister Lois "Judy" Risch, William "Bill" Risch, John "Jack" Risch, and Daniel Risch.
Those who knew Sam will remember him as a man who was a master at the "clever joke", found humor in the mundane, and treated every living being with kindness and respect. Sam's memory will be cherished and kept alive through the countless stories and shared moments that his family will continue to treasure.
