Robert Rolston Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sheridan Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Dec. 23, 2025.
It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Lee Rolston of Sheridan, on December 20, 2025. Born July 1, 1936, in Sheridan, WY to Donald and Florence Rolston. Bob grew up in Banner and Big Horn until leaving to attend the College of Agriculture at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. In 1958 he married Colleen Larson, also from Sheridan.
Throughout Bob's career in agriculture, he worked for the Wyoming Stock Growers Association, American National Cattlemen's Association, California Beef Council, National Wool Growers Association, Colorado Cattlemen's Association, American Salers Association and Maverick Ranch.
Bob was an extraordinary man who led an extraordinary life. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and an unwavering devotion to his family, friends, and community. His passion for people was matched only by his love of horses and the Big Horns. Bob was an avid runner, completing 35 marathons including the Pikes Peak Ascent and the Boston Marathon. After "retiring" Bob returned to Sheridan in 2005 and was elected County Commissioner where he served 3 terms. He was a member of the Board of the Big Horn Equestrian Center and served as one of the founding board members of the George Foundation. Bob was a proud member of the Big Horn Lions Club and the Rotary Club. His passions also included golfing with "the commissioners", a beer with "the boys" and cowboying at local ranches.
Bob is survived by his children Christi Rolston, Jeff Rolston and Mary Leclere and granddaughters Chloe and Morgane Leclere.
Bob, you will be dearly missed, forever cherished, and always remembered!
In leu of flowers, please make donations to the Dog and Cat Shelter, 84 E. Ridge Road, f Sheridan, WY, 82801 in Bob's name.
A Celebration of Life will be held next July.

Will miss our "catch ups" every year. We would laugh, tell stories and all things we did even at our age. He loved the brandings and still being able to "get on a horse". Rest my friend, job well done.

I always enjoyed our visits, he was such a kind and passionate man. Always extremely positive about everything. He had an energy about him that few people possess. I will always remember some of the stories we shared.

Bob was a cherished friend. He gave countless hours of his time cowboying for us in all weather and always with a cheerful smile and an encouragement for our kids. Working cattle will never be the same without Bob and `ole Smokey. Rest in peace friend.

I am so sorry to hear about Bob's passing. He was a remarkable guy and a cherished cousin to Lyle.

Bob was an inspiration - you knew he´d always have a smile for you and a funny story. We commented that we hoped we "looked as good as that guy at that age" every time we saw him and I personally made it a goal to keep running as long as he did. I didn´t make it. Most of all, I will always remember Bob being there for Colleen during her health challenges and what a great friend Bob was to Dad, plus how kind he was to Mom as Dad struggled in his last years. Wyoming lost a couple really good guys this year and we´re sure going to miss them.
