Robert Charles “Bob” Rose, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away holding his sweetheart’s hand on December 5, 2025 after a valiant and courageous battle with stage 4 metastatic kidney cancer. He was born on May 19, 1954, in Syracuse, New York, to Carl and Eileen (Hickey) Rose. The youngest of five children, and arriving nearly a decade after his siblings, Bob was a joyful surprise to his family… “Oopsie surprise, Baby Bob!”
Growing up in Liverpool, New York, Bob enjoyed an active childhood filled with neighborhood adventures, strong friendships, and time spent alongside his older siblings. He developed an early appreciation for laughter, learning, faith, and hard work through these early experiences. As the youngest by nearly a decade, he often carved out his own path, developing early on a sense of independence, resilience, and hope that stayed with him throughout his life.
In the fall of 1977, Bob met the love of his life and eternal companion, Beckie Lynn Dudley as they met eyes across a “Two Guys” store. After a brief and joyful whirlwind romance, they married on March 25, 1978. Their love and devotion to each other was unwavering. Later, after joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bob and Beckie were sealed with their children for time and all eternity on March 10, 1984 in the Washington, D.C. Temple. This was an important event that brought Bob profound peace, happiness, and the knowledge that he would be together with his family again someday…that this life is merely “a twinkling of an eye.”
During the early years of his career, Bob worked as a sales representative for several major companies, a role that oftentimes took him across the country. Always the devoted family man, he often brought his family along on these trips. They camped at KOAs so Bob could shower and dress for business meetings by day and spend evenings laughing, roasting marshmallows, and telling stories by the campfire. On one of his business trips, he discovered the beauty and peace of Cache Valley, Utah. Within a few years, he moved his family west from Louisiana to make a new home in Smithfield, where he found solace in the beauty of the surrounding mountains and rivers that he loved deeply.
Bob later graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Family and Human Development, a field that perfectly aligned with his kind, compassionate, and nurturing nature. He went on to open a childcare, where he spent the remainder of his career as “Mr. Bob.” His hard work and dedication to excellence led his childcare program to earn national accreditation through the National Association of Family Child Care…a distinction he proudly maintained until the day he closed his doors. Many children and their families came to love and trust him, and he had a gift for making each child feel seen, valued, and safe. His influence will continue for generations.
Family, both those who came before him and those who came after, was the center of Bob’s world. He cherished every moment spent with his wife, children and grandchildren, whether on family camping trips, holiday gatherings, days at the local pool, or simple afternoons at home. He was a keeper of stories, a guardian of family memories, and an enthusiastic genealogist who honored his ancestors and ensured their legacies would be remembered and that their temple ordinances were completed.
A talented and soulful musician, Bob was also a gifted organist whose music enriched countless church meetings, celebrations, and quiet moments of reflection. Sharing music was one of the many ways he expressed his love for others. While he served in many different callings within the church, his most cherished memories are when he was the ward organist with Beckie serving by his side as ward chorister.
Bob and Beckie served two missions together: one as temple workers in the Logan Utah Temple and another at the LDS Employment Center in Logan. Serving side by side brought them great joy and strengthened their devotion to each other and to their faith. Acts of service, whether big or small, was an essential daily practice for Bob…even when his health started to decline.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Eileen Rose; his brothers, Richard “Dick” and William “Bill” Rose; and his nephew Darren. He is survived by his loving wife, Beckie; his children Kristyn (Brady), Chad (Ashley), and Greg; and his three cherished grandchildren, Taylor (Mia), Erika, and Hayden. He is also survived by his brother James “Jim” (Patricia), his sister Kathleen, his father-in-law Charles “Gramps” Dudley, brothers-in-law Rod and Chuck (Celina) Dudley, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews who will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Smithfield 21st Ward Chapel (340 East 300 South, Smithfield, UT). A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30–10:30 a.m. in the Relief Society room. Interment will follow at the Smithfield Cemetery (300 East Center, Smithfield, UT).
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at the Gossner Cancer Center, IHC Home Health, Logan Regional Hospital, and Canyon Medical. Special thanks go to Dr. Johnson, Todd Hamblin, and Steve at the cancer center; Verlyne with home health; and Dr. Jeremy Starr at Canyon Medical.
