Robert Salter Obituary

Robert Earl "Honeybear" Salter was born on February 26, 1958, in Evergreen, Alabama to Ester Salter Thompson and the Late James Edward Thompson, Sr. He entered eternal rest at Passages Hospice on December 4, 2022, at the age of 64. During his youth, Robert was a member of Greater Guiding Light Missionary Baptist Church. Robert graduated with honors from George Washington Carver Senior High School, class of 1976. He was an accomplished member of the baseball and football team. He has been selected for the George Washington Carver Football Hall of Fame that will take place in July 2023. Robert attended Grambling State University where he earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, graduating with honors. In the year 1980, he was selected SWAC All Star. He had a brief stint with the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints before retiring. Robert worked many years for the New Orleans' Sheriff Department. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 27 years. He was the drummer for Fi Yi Yi and the Mandigo Warriors Indian Tribe. Robert was a jovial, kindhearted, and generous soul. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. Preceded in death by his father James Edward Thompson Sr., and brothers: Wendell Thompson Sr., Allen Thompson, and Edward Charles Thompson. He is survived by his mother Ester Salter Thompson of New Orleans, LA, his siblings Wyvonia Thompson (Robert) Thomas, James E. Thompson Jr., and Earl Thompson all of Brewton, AL; Terry Salter, Kenneth (Lisa) Thompson, Hubert (Donna) Thompson, Lisa Thompson (William) Videau, Michelle Thompson (Thomas) Toler all of New Orleans, LA; aunts and uncles Lucy May Thompson Holder and Jessie Mae Thompson Dukes both of Evergreen, AL, Robert "OB" (Mary) Salter of Pensacola, FL, Bob (Joyce) Thompson of New Orleans, LA; devoted friends Jermaine Lewis and Kenneth Carradine of New Orleans, LA. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Family and friends are invited to attend the Service Saturday, December 10, 2022, for 11:00 a.m. at Next Generation Church, 3536 St. Ferdinand St., New Orleans, LA. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, New Orleans, LA. Pastor Tyrone Smith officiating. Due to COVID-19, it is optional to wear a face mask. To Wild Rob Salter´s family....
My name if Billy Rambeau and I use to work with Rob at the post office in Park Manor. I just thought of Rob today and googled his name because I didn´t have his # and found this. I am so sorry to hear this and upset I wasn´t able to tell him bye one last time. We had great times back n da day!! Rob was a great friend to me for years and I miss him very much!!! Much love to him and his family.
