Born and raised in Closter, NJ
Formally of Milford, PA
Survived by his daughter, Jennifer Lynn Boschetti, son-in-law, Keith Boschetti, granddaughter Lindsey Boschetti, sisters, Joyce DeLongis and Patricia Giannotti, nieces Grace Mancini, and Lisa Vreeland, the Janetzko and Merlo families, and long time friends Joe and Donna Whalen. Predeceased by his dear wife of 53 years, Marion.
Bob was born to Gladys Grace VanValen, and Charles Peter Scherer on September 11th, 1937 in Englewood, NJ.
Bob passed away Tuesday, May 14th, 2024. Three years almost to the day his wife passed in 2021.
Robert Charles Scherer "Bob, Bobby, Pop, Dad, Uncle Bob,"
Was a true American Marlboro Man - although he quit smoking 30 years ago. Bob was a hardworking, wise, proud, honorable, and loyal husband, father, brother and friend. Bob was a talented woodworker & builder, having worked at Campoli and Sons in Cresskill, NJ until he was 70. Probably hundreds of homes and buildings all around Northeast Bergen County were built or renovated with the expertise of Bob. He was especially proud of his house on 163 West Street in Closter, where he raised his daughter, Jenny Lynn, with his wife, Marion. Bob and Marion worked to renovate the Closter house when they were newly married.
Bob knew how to fix anything! Auto, electrical, anything in the home, and he even had a green thumb in the garden. He helped his son in law, Keith finish the basement and build a new deck, on his and Jen's 1st home!
Bob was very proud to provide for Jen and Marion. Both parents were proud to put Jen through college to become a teacher. They were always her biggest cheerleaders the wind beneath her wings, as she would say.
Bob's favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing. Much of his hunting was done when Jenny was young. And everyone knew his crowning achievement in hunting, because the big buck's head hung in Marion's beautiful formal living room for over 20 years. He was named Big fella, and at Christmas Marion turned him into Rudolph, the reindeer.
As Bob got older, fishing became his favorite way to get outdoors in nature and relax and he took everyone he knew fishing at one point or another.
He was also very proud of the time he was drafted and served in the army overseas in Germany, in the early 60s. Thankfully, being discharged before the beginning of Vietnam. He worked as a mechanic while he served, and most recently as he aged he spoke about the army more and more.
Bob passed away 3 years almost to the day after his wife Marion. May 18, 2021 and May 14, 2024.
After Marion passed his family just knew he was only waiting until he felt it was his time to get to see her again.
Bob and Marion had some fun times together in their retirement years. They loved taking long weekend driving trips- except when they got stuck in Philly during the 9/11 attacks.
They were over the moon to welcome their first and only grandchild, Lindsey in 2004. They had many healthy years with her when she was young, many birthdays, Christmases, Thanksgivings, Easter's, and Marion's favorite Halloween. Bob and Marion had never visited Disneyworld, so in 2011 they finally got there with Jen, Keith, and their granddaughter Lindsey.
Lindsey is blessed to have those memories of her grandparents together, before aging started to catch up with them.
Bob and Marion were devoted to each other through everything. Now Bob gets to fix up a nice cloud house for him and his wife in heaven!
