Robert "Bob" Schmoll
1939-2024
Robert "Bob" Schmoll, 84, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Majestic Pines in Grand Rapids, MN. He was born on August 21, 1939, in Waubun, MN, to Edward and Jessie (Story) Schmoll.
He moved to Keewatin as a young boy, where he attended elementary school. Later, he attended Junior High and High School in Hibbing and was a proud member of the Hibbing Bluejacket football and baseball teams. Keewatin was where he identified from. On October 21, 1961, he was united in marriage to Carolyne (Howard) at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Hibbing. They made Keewatin their home for 60 years, raising four children.
Bob was first employed at Pat Shell in Keewatin, later a diesel mechanic at Cummins Diesel, a 49er, and served as maintenance (the football and baseball field were manicured second to none during his tenure) in the Nashwauk-Keewatin School District, where he was the Union President for several years. He was also a member of the Keewatin Volunteer Fire Department.
Bob had a passion for deer hunting, fishing, canning pickles, gardening, and watching sports, along with an occasional beer or two. He loved watching his kids and grandkids in sports and other activities and relished family time. Bob was well known in the 1970's as the "Honey Wagon Master", in which he employed many young men who later became his good friends.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyne; children Roberta (Ron) Smith, Goodland, MN; Chris (Stan Jr) Bautch, Grand Marais, MN; Missy DePaulis, Keewatin, MN; Tom (Sheri) Schmoll Grand Rapids, MN, his grandchildren; Natalie, Bethany, Hannah, Austin, Thomas, Noah and Braden, his great-grandchildren; Aubrey and Landen, his siblings; LaVerne Stalboerger and Jim Schmoll.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Don Schmoll, and sisters Doris Antonsen, Marge Belland, and Pat Stalboerger.
The family would like to thank Majestic Pines for their care, compassion, respect and support.
A private family memorial service will be held at the Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 11:00 AM, followed by a celebration for all friends and relatives at the Keewatin Community Center from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM.
