Robert Schorr Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Parrott Funeral Home & Crematory on Oct. 12, 2024.
Robert F. Schorr, a devoted family man and veteran aviator, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2024, in Fayetteville, GA, at the age of 94. Born on June 15, 1930, in Chicago, IL, Robert led a distinguished life marked by service, dedication, and love for his family.
Robert proudly served his country as a Naval Aviator, piloting aircraft from the decks of aircraft carriers during his tenure with the United States Navy. Following his honorable service, he transitioned to a career in commercial aviation, retiring as a pilot for Delta Airlines after many decades of safely guiding passengers across the skies.
Additionally, Robert was an original board member at Delta who played a crucial role in bringing the Delta Air Lines Museum to fruition, preserving aviation history for generations to come.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Robert was deeply involved with the Catholic Archdiocese, contributing significantly to the establishment of Most Blessed Sacrament, which served as both a church and school. He also chaired the committee responsible for the conversion of Sacred Heart to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Essie Lathan Schorr, in 2017; his parents, Emil and Marie Schorr; and his brother, Gerald Schorr. Robert leaves behind a legacy of love and family in his surviving daughter, Valerie Bennington; son, Robert Schorr and his wife Kristi; grandchildren, Victoria Little and her husband Ray, Andrew Whatley and his wife Megan, Kenzie Schorr and her husband Mark, Zachary Schorr, and Kole Schorr; and great-grandchildren, Reese Little, Reagan Little, Chapman Whatley, Holden Whatley, Blakely Schorr, and Bristol Morton.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 11 o'clock in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home, with Deacon Mark Friedlein officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., with a vigil beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Parrott Funeral Home and Crematory.
Robert's life was a testament to strength, commitment, and the enduring bonds of family. His memory will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

As Secretary of Delta Golden Wings, Inc., a pilot retiree organization of which Bob served as president for several years, I send sympathy to all his survivors on behalf of the total membership. Those who knew him always enjoyed his conversation at meetings and his info he shared on the Delta Museum where he spent time as a board member in earlier years.

I have known this fine "aviation gentlemen" for a long time and had great respect for him. I followed his leadership as president of Delta Golden Wings, a pilot retiree organization for Delta pilots. We enjoyed getting to know each other then on a much closer basis. I send my utmost sympathy to his surviving children, grandchildren, great grands and remaining family.

Flew with Bob a lot during my "Delta time". Great guy and very professional pilot. Enjoyed his stories about his Navy time. You always look forward to flying with certain guys-Bob was one of them.
