June 26, 1936 - August 29, 2025
Robert M. "Bob" Scriven, 89, of Kearney, passed away August 29, 2025, surrounded by family.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 on Saturday, September 13 at First Presbyterian Church in Kearney, with interment at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday September 12 at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that Memorials be directed to the First Presbyterian Church in Kearney or to the Bob and Jan Scriven Family Fund for 4-H at the Kearney Area Community Foundation. Born June 6, 1936, in Scottsbluff, Neb. to Maurice and Mary (Bunger) Scriven, Bob attended Scottsbluff schools and Colorado State University. On June 29, 1957, he married Janice Achziger, with whom he shared a life of love and service.
Bob devoted his career to agriculture and education, serving as a University of Nebraska Extension Educator and later as a Grazing Consultant for more than 27 years. His guidance supported farmers and ranchers across the region.
Active in his community, Bob served as ACT Lead for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, was a Rotary leader, a dedicated Mason, and a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Kearney. He also gave his time as a 4-H leader, opening his home to the neighborhood youth.
Bob loved gardening, bluegrass and gospel music, and time spent with family. His greatest joy was his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Bob's life was defined by faith, service, and love. He will be remembered as a mentor, friend, and devoted family man.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Janelle Rolfes (Steve) of Omaha and Shauna Shafer (Robert) of Summersville, W.Va.; grandchildren, Joshua Rolfes (Mindy), Justin Rolfes (Sammie), Shannon Takes (Charles), and Shealyn Falbo (Joshua); and ten great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, wife, Janice, and three great-grandchildren.
