Robert William Seppelt was born on September 21, 1932, east of Pierz on his grandfather Duschner's farm, to Edward and Margaret (Duschner) Seppelt. He was raised on the family farm 2-1/2 miles SE of Buckman, where he lived his entire life until his passing. Robert began his education at District 99 School at the age of six and completed the eighth grade by the time he was thirteen. As a young man, he took on significant responsibility helping on the farm while his father was ill. Following his father's passing when Robert was sixteen, he remained on the farm to assist his mother. In 1950, after his mother married Raymond Boser and moved away, Robert and his brother, Kenneth, continued operating the family farm together. In 1953, Robert was drafted into the United States Army. He completed basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas, followed by additional training at Fort Benning, Georgia, and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He then served in Germany for one year and was honorably discharged on December 11, 1955. After returning home, Robert held a variety of jobs, including working at Swift in St. Paul, on ore boats in Duluth, and threshing wheat in North Dakota. During this time, he met Jenny Meyer, whom he married on June 3, 1958. Robert and Jenny made their home on the family farm, where they raised their four children: Neal, Dean, Paul, and Mary. Robert milked cows until 1996 and continued crop farming for the next twenty years. Even after retiring, he remained active by helping his sons in the fields and maintaining farm machinery. Robert was a member of the Pierz American Legion and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served as a Buckman Township Supervisor for 41 years, from 1966 to 2007, was an election judge for several years, a former member of the St. Michael's Catholic School Board and he was a PCA Board of Directors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, playing cribbage, watching game shows, cheering for the Minnesota Twins, and, most of all, spending time with his family. He especially cherished visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who fondly remember the tractor rides he gave them on the farm.
Robert is survived by loving wife, Jenny Seppelt; children, Neal (Linda) Seppelt, Dean (Cindy) Seppelt, Paul (Kim) Seppelt and Mary (Joel) Gritzmacher; siblings, Mary Ella Thommes, Margie (Punky) Benusa and Bernie Sorvari; sister-in-law, Romaine Seppelt; grandchildren, Josh (Jessica) Seppelt, Jill (Chad) Tomala, Lori (AJ) Petersen, Nikki (Adam) Taylor, Bobby (Tessa) Seppelt, Bailey (Mike Ransom) Seppelt, Angie (Justin) Athman, Matt (Ashley) Seppelt, Mike (Britt) Seppelt, Katie (Jake) Nelson, Samantha (Kyle) Bednar, Erin (Corey) Egan, Kalyn (Carter) Moulzolf and 34 great-grandchildren.
