Robert C. Shearer, 82, passed away on February 7, 2026, surrounded by family at Riverview Medical Center. He was predeceased by his parents, Irma Casesa Shearer and Jacob Carl Shearer.
Born in
Brooklyn, New York, Bob attended New Utrecht High School and Pace University, and served in the Army National Guard. He spent more than 40 years at Merrill Lynch, including five years with Merrill Lynch Canada in Toronto, before settling with his family in
Middletown, New Jersey.
Bob was instrumental in forming the Knights of Columbus at St. James Parish, where he served as Grand Knight. He also assisted in building many homes with Habitat for Humanity.
He was an avid reader, enjoyed gambling in Atlantic City, and making people laugh. Bob was unapologetically food-driven; so much so that after each heart surgery, his main concern upon discharge from Mount Sinai was making sure he got a couple of slices from Patsy's Pizzeria. Known for his fierce work ethic and competitive spirit, Bob loved a lively debate; and made sure he always had the last word.
After years of health challenges, Bob was cared for with unwavering devotion by his brother-in-law, Neill, who remained by his side until the very end.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Stacey Shearer; sons, Daniel Shearer and John (Kim) Shearer; granddaughters Alexis and Taylor; grandson Cole; Sue Shearer, the mother of his children; sisters Marian Orkin and Dorothy (Ron) Cheeley; brother John (Linda) Shearer; brother-in-law Neill Napolitano; sister-in-law Louise Napolitano; and his dog, Scampi.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 17th, 2026 from 9-11am at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue,
Red Bank, NJ 07701. An 11:30am Mass at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Red Bank will follow. Interment will be private.
