Robert Owen Shew, age 95, of Akron, passed away on December 14, 2024 at Akron City Hospital. He was born in Kenmore, Ohio on January 10, 1929 to the late Robert J. and Ruth Shew.
Robert found love and married Lenore Davidson on March 7, 1953. Robert and Lenore lived in the Akron area for most of their lives together before Lenore's passing in April of 2019.
After graduating from Springfield High School in 1948, Robert enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served his country from July of 1948 to June of 1952. After his time in the service, Robert worked as a manager in the grocery store industry for many years before retirement.
He was a faithful member of Harmony Baptist Church of Tallmadge, Ohio, as well as Betsy Ross Golf and Bowling League.
He loved to spend time with his family and friends. If there was any reason to get together, Robert wanted to be a part of it. He enjoyed a good joke and would never pass up the opportunity to have a good laugh. He was a loving husband, devoted father and he was committed to his family by great faith and love.
Robert is survived by his loving children, Pastor David O. (Sherry) Shew, Ricky (Judy) Wilkins, Kathy Shew (daughter-in-law) and Karen Hamlin; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Helen Headley; brother, Harold (Marion) McElwee; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lenore; son, John "Doug" Shew; brothers, James and Alfred Shew; sisters, Vaughn Sims and Ruth Merriner; father and mother-in-law, John and Glade Davidson
Family and friends are invited to visit at Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, OH 44305) on Monday, December 23, 2024 from 10am until the time his funeral service begins at 12pm. Pastor Bernard Christy and Pastor Michael Duma will officiate.
Robert will then be laid to rest with military honors at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery (10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, OH 44273).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Robert's memory to Haven of Rest Ministries (175 E Market St, Akron, OH 44308).
