Daniels Family Funeral Services - Sara Road ChapelRobert Burton Shingleton, of Rio Rancho, NM, passed away on January 20, 2026, with his wife and faithful dog, Max, by his side. He had been battling cancer for the last year. Robert was born in Euclid, Ohio on May 16, 1953, to Robert and Mary Shingleton. He is survived by his very loving wife, Connie (Williams-Ortiz) of Rio Rancho, NM, sons Carl Shingleton of Seymour, Indiana, Eric Shingleton of Las Vegas, Nevada and David Ortiz of Danville, California as well as six grandchildren, Jason and Michael Shingleton of Indiana, Renee and Rylee Shingleton of Nevada, and Valentina and Alexander Ortiz of California. He is also survived by his brother, Steven Shingleton and sister, Patricia Walker, both of Albuquerque, brother-in-law Gary Williams of Rio Rico, Arizona, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Cindy and JP Smith of Scottsdale, Arizona as well as numerous nieces, nephews and good friends.
Following high school, Robert enlisted in the US Navy and served as a Hospital Corpsman for the next 24 years. Upon retiring from the Navy, Robert earned his bachelor’s degree in special education from UNM and taught at the high school level in both Albuquerque and Rio Rancho. He returned to earn a master’s degree in educational leadership from NMHU and worked as a special education administrator at Rio Rancho High School for ten years until his retirement in 2017. At retirement, Robert and Connie pursued their love for travel in their RV, on cruises and on road trips. They were blessed to visit and explore 43 states, 17 countries, and 5 continents. They especially enjoyed traveling to see their sons and grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Shingleton, his sister Mary Lou Fox, and brother Emory Shingleton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Robert to the St. Vincent de Paul Conference at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1594 Sara Rd., Suite F, Rio Rancho, NM 87124.
The funeral for Robert will be held on February 13, 2026, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. The Rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
