Robert Leroy Short

Robert Leroy Short born on December 17, 1935 in Centralia, Illinois passed away in Zephyrhills, Florida July 22, 2025.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Sue Short (née Simmons), of Zephyrhills, Florida; his son, Michael Steven Short, and wife, Kelly, of Four Seasons, MO; his grandchildren, Kylle and Ben Schauf of New Melle, MO; Jonathan Short of O’Fallon, MO; Cassie and Tim Dowling of St. Peters, MO; and Devin J. Halliday; and four great-grandchildren, Lelynd, Joleen, Simon, and Helena. He also leaves behind his brother, Samuel Lee Short, and wife, Tressa, of Mt. Zion, IL, and brother-in-law, Vern Ray Simmons, of Zephyrhills, FL.

He was preceded in death by his son Dennis Keith Short and daughter Ronda Jo Halliday, his sister and brother-in-law Brenda and Allen Byars, and his sister-in-law Donna K. Simmons

He was a graduate of Centralia Township High, class of 1953, and went on to graduate from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. Robert served in the U.S. Air Force before continuing his career as an engineer for 35-years at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft and another 7 years with the Dept. of the Navy in Weights Engineering. He was a member of S.A.W.E. and the Shriners.

His free time was spent flying, fishing, competitive shooting and traveling the world with his wife of 66 years, however his true passion was spending as much time as possible on a golf course.
