Robert "Bob" John Simms, Sr., 83, passed away peacefully July 6, 2025, with his family by his side.

Born October 14, 1941 in Oak Park, IL, Bob was the son of the late William and Josephine (Collins) Simms. He was also preceded in death by his son, Walter Michael Simms and grandson, Nicholas Simms.

On November 3, 1962, Bob married the love of his life, Jacqueline Szymanski, who survives him. Also left to cherish his memory are: his children, Robert J. (Barbara) Simms, Jr. of Spring, TX and Jodi Yager of South Bend; and four grandchildren, Tyler Avery, Sabrina Simms, Lauren Avery and Michael Yager.

Bob was very active in the community. He was a member of the Lion’s Club for 50 years, as well as the Elk’s Club and the Mishawaka Civic Theatre. He was an avid traveler of the United States, Europe and United Kingdom. He was also an avid nature lover of our Country and State Parks.

He was also a hard worker. After retiring from NIPSCO, where he worked for 31 years, he went on to work part time at Sears for 16 years.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the wonderful nurses and caregivers at Heart to Heart Hospice Services, especially to Nurse Sarah, who was amazing in caring for Bob.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 9th at 10:30 a.m., with visitation 1 hour prior, at St. Pius X Catholic Church. The funeral will be live-streamed at www.youtube.com/@stpiusgranger

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice.
