Robert Smith Obituary

Robert G. Smith, age 68, of Tiverton, RI, passed away, Saturday, May 31, 2025 after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Claire (Hopkins)Smith. Born in Fall River, MA he was the son of Eleanor (Williams) Smith and the late Robert L. Smith



Bob started his work life at Long Acres Farm in Westport, MA now Westport Rivers Vineyard. A graduate of Boston College, earning a degree in Finance, he continued on to work for Henkels & McCoy for 32 years, where he was a safety specialist, covering New York and New England.



He was an avid softball player for the Funbunch Team winning three RI State Titles and was inducted into the Westport Athletic Hall of Fame.



In addition to his beloved wife Claire, he was also predeceased by his daughter Kathryn (Hopkins) Rodriguez.



He is survived by his mother Eleanor, brothers John and Bruce (all of Westport,MA) and a sister, Robin Poirier (Garren) of Killington, VT and Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Elysia Hopkins Rodriguez, Briana Claire R. Sumayao (husband Andiomel Sumayao)and Katherine Hopkins ( fiancé Josh Anett); great-grandchildren, Claire Luna Rodriguez, Brendan Jean R. Calingasan, Dane Mitchell R. Calingasan, and Louvelle R. Sumayao.



In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund in Bob's name will be established in the coming weeks.



Funeral services will be private.
