Robert Fulton Smith

Robert Fulton Smith, age 87 of Bremen, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. He was born January 10, 1939 in Walterboro, South Carolina, son of the late James Steven Smith and Doris Smith Strickland. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn Smith Segars; and brother, James Steven Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Fincher Smith; children Lorraine (Jim) Guitard of Cumming, Georgia and Larry David (Senta) Smith of Madison, Alabama; son in law, Jimmy Segars of Newnan, Georgia; sisters, Ann (Chris) Hammond and Janis Barolet all of Savannah, Georgia; grandchildren, Patty, Brian, Jason (Ashley), Colton, Amanda, David (Brooke) and Sam (Summer); great grandchildren, Brittanie, Bentley, Braden, Noah, Luna and Panda; twenty eight nieces and nephews; two sisters in law, Linda Bearden and Elaine Wilson; wonderful neighbors who are always there to help you, Anthony and Lisa Reese, Jim and Vickie Persons, Cindy and Chad Bell and Sally Head.

Robert served our country in the United States Army's 82nd Airborne Division from 1957-1960 earning the rank of Sp-4. During his service, he was stationed in Mainz, Germany where he was part of the Army's largest military paratroop and equipment drop where he had a total of forty-nine jumps.

Robert spent his life serving others. He graduated from Atlanta Law School in 1967 with a Bachelor of Law degree. He worked in State Government with the Georgia Department of Labor for thirty-four years while finishing his career as the Program Coordinator. He worked with FEMA for nineteen years preventing and responding to natural disasters and federal emergencies. He also worked with the Atlanta Football Association as a football official for twenty-seven years. He served on several boards/committees, including Haralson County Veterans Association, Haralson County Board of Equalization, Haralson County Zoning Board, the National Football League Players Association Youth Development Program and numerous boards in Hapeville, Georgia while living in that area. He was also instrumental in organizing and coordinating the Haralson County Veterans Annual Freedom Ride.

During his free time, he and Carolyn enjoyed traveling. Visiting Germany twice, Canada twice, Italy and traveling almost all of the United States.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 14, 2026 from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Mt. Holly Church.

Services will be Saturday, February 14, 2026 from Mt. Holly Church at 2:00 pm with Bishop Evett Guyton and Bishop Jeff Maxwell officiating. Jim Persons, Avery Smith, Brian Tanner, Jimmy Segars, Jason Segars, Chris Coffman, Austin Coffman and Tony Reese will serve as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Guitard and Chris Hammond.

Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
