Robert Alexander
Ten days from holding you,
Ten days from hello,
We never heard your first sweet cry,
But oh, how we loved you so.
Six perfect pounds,
Eighteen inches long —
Every tiny detail
Exactly where you belong.
Your daddy dreamed of engines and roads,
Of small hands learning gears,
Of teaching you to chase the horizon
Through all the coming years.
You lived beneath your mother’s heart,
Safe in love and light.
And though we couldn’t keep you here,
You are ours — day and night.
Forever our son.
Forever our boy.
Forever Robert Alexander.
