Robert A. Smyth, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday July 31, 2025, in Akron, Ohio, at the age of 73. Born on November 18, 1951, in Dennison, Ohio, Bob lived a life rich in love, laughter, and generous spirit.
From the heart of a devoted family man emerged a man of many talents. For over thirty years, Bob served faithfully as a sales driver for Wonder Bread and formerly was a jack-of-all-trades at Flaherty's Potato Chip Co., where he immersed himself in the art of hard work. He was not just known for his professional achievements, Bob possessed a playful jest which often manifested in pranks that spread joy and laughter amongst his beloved family. His humor was as boundless as his love, and he approached life with an open heart and helping hand, ever ready to assist those in need.
In matters of the heart, Bob's lifelong partnership began with Roxanne, whom he cherished since her teenage years. Their bond flourished, culminating in marriage on March 10, 1999, when they made vows that would weave their lives together for 26 remarkable years. They built a nurturing household filled with love, laughter, and the affectionate chaos of family life.
Bob was a father to Bobbi (Dave O'Neal) Smyth, Lori (Doug) Zwahlen, and a very special grandson, Chace Dillon, whom he raised as a son. He also embraced the joys of fatherhood with Eddie (Alison) Dennison, Todd (Veronica) Dennison, and Brandi Dennison, while proudly doting on many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. His love knew no bounds, extending to his mother, Donna Cooper Burns, and sister, Arlene (Howard- Bob's Best Friend) Cunard, along with a faithful circle of nieces and nephews. A special mention must be made of his Great Dane, Avalee, who shared his home and heart along with other pets.
Bob's passion for the outdoors manifested vividly in his love for hunting, fishing, and camping trips in Carrollton, Ohio, where memories were kindled under starry skies. A keen mechanic, he also devoted his time to racing cars, often building and tuning them to perfection, earning the respect and admiration of peers who sought his expertise. Bob's varied interests created a tapestry of experiences that enriched his life and those around him.
He leaves behind a legacy of love—a testament to a man whose life was a beautiful blend of dedication, laughter, and unwavering familial bonds. As we remember Robert A. Smyth, we honor the joyful memories and moments that brought so many together, forever grateful for a life well-lived.
