Robert G. Sobota

1950 - 2026

Robert G. Sobota, 76, of Latrobe, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026, at Independence Health System Latrobe Hospital. Born Jan. 19, 1950, in Latrobe, he was the son of the late Frank S. Sobota and Mary (Volchko) Kolan Sobota. Bob was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Latrobe. Prior to his retirement, he was employed at Opco, Inc. Bob was a member of the Kingston Veterans & Sportsmans Club and the White Eagles. Throughout the years, he had coached midget football and little league baseball and had been active with G.L.O.W. Some of his favorite pastimes included bowling, hunting, and golfing. In his younger years, he played softball. Most importantly, he cherished time spent with his family, especially vacations to Ocean City, MD. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Kolan; two sisters, Catherine "Kappy" Kolan and Patricia L. Savage; his mother-in-law, Norma Kunkle; a sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Kunkle; and a nephew, David Savage. Bob is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Gloria J. (Kunkle) Sobota, whom he married on May 4, 1968. Throughout the next 57 years, they were never far from each other's side. He is also survived by three children, Terry L. Sobota (Johanna) of Latrobe, Cheryl Harman (Brian) of Latrobe, and Robert S. Sobota (Sabrina) of Latrobe; eight grandchildren, Kylie (JT), Riley (Amy), Abby, Alyssa, Nick, Kody (Maddie), Nathan, and Caitlin; three great-grandchildren, Wesley, Rory, and Case; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William and Patricia Kunkle; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the ICU staff at Latrobe Hospital for the kind and compassionate care that they provided. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at LOPATICH-BRINKER FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the funeral home, with the Trinity Clergy officiating. Interment will be private.
