Robert J. "Bob" Sokolowski

Robert J. "Bob" Sokolowski, age 74, of Summit Township and formerly Edinboro, passed away Friday, December 3, 2021. Born in Erie on February 14, 1947 he was a son of the late Robert A. and Helen (Sulkowski) Sokolowski.
Robert attended Cathedral Preparatory School and Academy High School graduating in 1964. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, proudly serving during the Vietnam War in Operation ARC Light as part of the Strategic Air Command. Robert worked at General Electric for 32 years retiring in 2002.
After his retirement, Robert pursued his passion for automobiles and motorsports. First, working alongside his son Eric at Werx Motorsports, then Martinelli Motorsports competing in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series. Robert was also an icon in youth wrestling throughout the local region and the state in the 1980s and early 90s. He was the head coach and director of the Edinboro Youth Wrestling Club and served as USA Wrestling state director for Pennsylvania. He enjoyed restoring and wrenching on classic and sports cars, attending regional and national automobile events. Spending valuable time with his friends and family, especially his wife Diane and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Diane Susan (Schafer) Sokolowski, whom he married on November 29, 1969; two sons, Eric Sokolowski (Jennifer) of Charlotte, NC and Matthew Sokolowski of Temecula, CA; two brothers, Richard Sokolowski (Dorothy) and James Sokolowski (Susan); and four grandchildren, Lauren, Collin, Ella, and Samuel.
Friends may call on Saturday, December 11 from 12 Noon until the time of a funeral mass at 2:00 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, 8880 Main Street, McKean, PA 16426. Military honors will follow mass. Memorial contributions in Robert's memory may be made to the Edinboro Youth Wrestling Club, 9445 Tileyard Rd; Waterford, PA 16441.
