He was born June 27, 1928 in Rockingham County to the late Ira Casper and Mary Driver Spitzer.
Robert was a lifetime farmer. He was a member of the Farm Bureau.
On January 31, 1948 he married the former Mary Rebecca Mason, who preceded him in death May 27, 1992.
Surviving are four children, Linda Zirkle (Maynard) of Saco, MT, Ronald Spitzer (Janet) of Fulks Run, Susan Miller of Fulks Run, Dale "Shaggy" Spitzer of Broadway; grandchildren, Edgar Harper, Jr. (Audrey) of Rockingham, Jeanette Spitzer of Ohio, R.L. Spitzer of Ohio, Jeff Miller (Shannon Roher) of Weyers Cave, Tracey Miller (Richard Turner) of Fulks Run, Heather Spitzer of Augusta, WV, Daniel Spitzer (Brooke) of Fulks Run; great grandchildren, Dallas, Jared, Nevaeh, Jase, Jason; step-great grandchildren, Belle, Landon, Amanda, Bryce, Kara; step-great great grandchildren, Brent, Casey; brothers, Ira Clay Spitzer (Janice) of Timberville, George Nelson Spitzer (Hilda) of Broadway; nephews, Kent Spitzer, Greg Spitzer, and Melvin Cook.
He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Bonnie Spitzer; and son-in-law, Allen Miller.
Pastor Jerry Shiflet will conduct a funeral service 2:00 PM Sunday at Linville Creek Church of the Brethren in Broadway. Burial will follow in the Linville Creek Cemetery. Friends and family are welcome to come by Shaggy's home following the service.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 4 – 6 PM at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's own choice.
