Robert “Bob” Steenbock, 76, passed away peacefully at his home in Topeka, Kansas, on December 29, 2025.
Born on February 27, 1949, in Clay Center, Kansas, Bob was the son of William Sr. and Wanda (Sanneman) Steenbock. He spent his formative years in the Longford area, gaining a lifelong work ethic while helping on his family’s dairy farm. A 1967 graduate of Longford High School, Bob went on to study electronics at Beloit Vo-Tech, a skill that launched his career as a local business owner. In 1969, he moved to Clay Center and purchased Printz Radio and TV Service.
In 1970, Bob met the love of his life, Sheila Wilkey. They were united in marriage on July 17, 1971, at the Sterling Reformed Presbyterian Church. Bob & Sheila started their family in 1976. They had two sons, Andrew & Dustin. They celebrated 47 years of marriage before Sheila’s passing in 2018.
In his later working years, he worked on the Fort Riley Army Base as a groundskeeper and maintenance worker. During that time of his life, he also helped Sheila with her Kansas By Design craft business until her passing in 2018.
An avid sportsman in his younger years, Bob was a well-known pitcher for several fast-pitch softball teams and a proud sponsor of the Industry “Little World Series.” He was a dedicated member of the American Legion and the Elks Lodge in Clay Center, where he cherished the camaraderie of his closest friends. A steadfast fan of the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs, Bob’s greatest joy remained his family and the time spent with those he loved.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sheila; his parents; and his sister, LaDonna Kamphaus.
He is survived by his two sons, Andrew Steenbock and wife Rachel of Topeka, and Dustin Steenbock and wife Ronni of Manhattan; six grandchildren, Braden & Addy (Andrew & Rachel), and Henley, Heidi, Chloe, and Josh (Dustin & Ronni); a sister, Irene Schoneweis (Wilbur) of Wichita; a brother, Bill Steenbock Jr. (Nancy) of Longford; a sister-in-law, Zetta Anderson (Jim) of Oakdale, MN; a brother-in-law, Tyrone Kamphaus of Idana; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, KS.
Funeral services will take place at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at the First Presbyterian Church in Clay Center with Pastor Scott Lingle officiating.
