Robert Patrick "Pat" Stehly, age 87, of Weston, died Friday, April 11, 2025, under the care of St. Croix Hospice at Our House Senior Living Memory Care, Wausau.
Pat was born on March 17, 1938, the son of the late Theodore and Lucylle Stehly in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Pat enjoyed a wonderful childhood working on the family lumberyard in Hecla, South Dakota and then entered college, earning a master's degree in civil engineering at Marquette University. Pat was a United States Army veteran, serving honorably in Greenland. He was employed at Zimpro Inc. as a civil engineer for many years, enjoying the complexities of wastewater treatment design. It was his role as a husband, father and friend that defined him, but his knowledge of the amazing grace provided by our risen Savior, Jesus Christ, that gave him his most joy.
Pat was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Stehly (Hintz), whom he married in 1967. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised four boys, John (Dionne), Joel, Timothy (Tou Tou) and Robert (Sandra). Nancy passed away in 1995 leaving a legacy of love and grace that Pat carried with him. In 1997, Pat was blessed to find and marry Barbara Stehly (Princl). Through Barb, he gained a loving partner and additional family, including stepchildren Jennifer Geoffrey, Karen (Mark) Doles and Andrew Geoffrey that brought him much joy.
Pat and Barb enjoyed volunteering their time, lectoring and distributing communion at St. Therese Parish and at St. Clare's hospital. Pat also loved gardening, making maple syrup, and hunting along with long walks with Barb. He was always ready to play a game of sheepshead with his boys or pop his famous popcorn. He was a wonderful man with a generous spirit, always ready with a helping hand or a thoughtful word.
Pat is survived by his wife, Barb Stehly; his children John, Joel, Timothy and Robert; eight grandchildren; stepchildren Jennifer, Karen and Andrew; seven step grandchildren; one great grandchild; one sister Catherine Bertucci; two brothers Charles (Donna) Stehly and Theodore (Judith) Stehly; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will remember him with deep affection. He was preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Lucylle; his first wife Nancy; his in-laws Ken and Doris Hintz; his brother-in-law James Bertucci and a stepdaughter Ann Geoffrey.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church, 113 W. Kort Street, Rothschild. Rev. Joseph Albert Saleth will preside. Visitation will start at 10:30 am at the Church, with a rosary service being held prior to the Memorial Mass. Burial will be in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
