Born in Van Nuys, California on August 20, 1952 to Robert and Patricia Stomel. Bob, age 72, moved from Farmington Hills, Michigan in 2008 to Prescott and Sedona, Arizona where he continued to practice until his retirement in 2023.
He attended Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated in 1980.
He was Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology.
He was a past President of ACOI, MOA, and Oakland County Physicians.
He also served on the Federal Government committees: RUC, CMD, PEAC, AOA, and ACOI Consultant for Practice Guidelines. He was a founding member of the Chest Pain Centers of Providers.
He had a deep interest in Cardiogenic Shock and was a Co-Chairman at University of Michigan and Duke Research Institute, exploring the best options for treating cardiogenic shock.
He participated in many trials such as the TACTICS trials, MATE study, HERO-2, and GUSTO-III as the Principal Investigator for Botsford General Hospital. He participated in several Cardiac Pacemaker studies, NOVA MR, IROX Lead, etc.
He was an author and coauthor of many Publications and abstracts.
Bob was the Head of Cardiology at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan. He started a Cardiac Fellowship program through ACOI at Botsford and trained several cardiologists. He was chairman of the Board of Directors of Cardiovascular Clinical Associates. He also was a Special Deputy for Wayne County Sheriff's Department.
His passion was his ceramics and glass blowing.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years Elaine Stomel; his children, Joshua Stomel (Jo), Melinda Stomel (Adrian); and stepson Gregory Martin (Joy); and cherished grandchildren, Steven Martin and Scott Martin. He is also survived by his siblings, sister Anita Nelson and brother Lauren Stomel (Paulina), his Aunt Mernie Hancock, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Patricia Stomel, and Tricia Johnson (sister).
A celebration of life will be announced in the future. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial donation to ACOI, MOA, or AOA.

I've known Bob Stomel since I was a G.I. fellow at Botsford 88-90. I always admired his skill and dedication to the profession and his love of teaching. He was greatly respected by the house staff at Botsford while I was there and will be missed.
