Robert Sweany Obituary

Robert J. Sweany Sr., 69, of Clarksville, passed away Friday, January 12, 2024, in Concordia Hospice Donnell House, Washington. He was born May 2, 1954, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Clyde and Dorothy Viestra Sweany. Mr. Sweany was a 1972 graduate of Beth Center High School. Bob was employed as an underground miner at the Clyde Mine in Fredericktown for over 20 years and then in maintenance at the Bethlehem Center School District for over 13 years. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, Owls Club, East Bethlehem Baptist Church and the Fredericktown American Legion. Bob was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and gardening. He liked going to the casino and especially loved time with family and grandchildren. On November 13, 1976, he married Marsha Meyers Sweany, who survives. They celebrated 47 years of marriage. Also surviving are three children, Shannon Sweany of Deemston, Robert J. Sweany (Heidi) of Washington, Jordan Sweany (Roxanne) of Fredericktown; five grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Brooke, Mason, Everly and Landyn; a brother, Don Sweany (Anne) of Belle Vernon; a sister, Mary Lou Webeck (Jim) of Deemston. Deceased is a granddaughter, Ada Sweany. The family would like to give a special thank you to Concordia Hospice for their kindness and compassion. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 18, in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, Ltd., 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 19, with Pastor George Lammay and John Sweany officiating. Interment will follow in Buckingham Cemetery. A guest book is available at www.GreenleeFuneralHome.com.

Bob was a great guy w/ a great personality! He always was happy-go-lucky and had a great sense of humor. Bob and his sister Mary Lou rode my bus to school every day while in high school. I will miss him. Prayers for Bob´s family and friends. R.I.P.
