Robert Kazuo "Kazu" Takamine

Robert Kazuo "Kazu" Takamine, 83, passed away peacefully at home under hospice care in the early morning hours of June 12, 2025.
Born in 1941 in Kukuihaele, Hawai'i, Kazu was the youngest son of Tozo and Usa Takamine and part of a large family of 14 children.
A proud Army veteran, he served from 1959 to 1965, traveling throughout the mainland United States and Germany. After returning home, he worked for the County of Hawai'i Roads Division, where he began in 1966 and retired in 1994 as Overseer. He was deeply dedicated to his work in Honoka'a, Waimea, and Kohala, taking pride in helping to keep the roads safe for the community.
Kazu had a deep connection to Honoka'a, where he built strong friendships and was a familiar face in the town's pool halls. After retirement, golf became his passion. He enjoyed both the game and the camaraderie while working at the Hamakua Golf Course and Waimea Country Club. He was a member of Hui Uruma and enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and working with his hands.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Takamine of Honoka'a; daughters Yvette (Keala) Thompson, Tammy Takamine, and Nicole (Brandon) Aurello of Honoka'a; son Casey (Genielee) Takamine of Honoka'a; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Sueko (Masao) Kakazu of Oahu; brother Takeshi (Sumie) Takamine of Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held. His ashes will be scattered privately at a later date.
