Robert James Terbay, Sr. (Bob) of
Austin, TX, passed away on May 14, 2025, at the age of 85. He was born on October 3, 1939, in Austin TX, to parents Edward and Julia Terbay (Bashara).
Bob was born and raised in Austin. He grew up on East 1st Street with three brothers and one younger sister. His dad passed away at an early age. Bob and his siblings decided to quit school to work and provide for the household and their mother. The family moved to the Hyde Park area when he was 18 years old, where he ended up living next door to his future wife, Cathy. They dated for 6 years before getting married in 1969. They raised their children, Robert and Michelle, in that house and lived there for the rest of their lives. Bob enjoyed having family and friends come to the house. So much so, he turned the back den into a party room. If only those walls could talk, the stories that would be told. He worked several jobs, as a mechanic and a truck driver. He was always willing to help anyone if they were in need. He was good at fixing and repairing things. He loved being outdoors, fishing and hunting.
Bob's favorite place to be was at the lake house, surrounded by family and friends to eat, drink, and play cards. He enjoyed the annual Fish Fry for fish, beer, horseshoes, and BS. He taught all his grandchildren how to play poker
and would try to take their money, but they usually won. He always smiled and laughed even when they were winning and taking his money. He always woke up the next morning and the first thing he would say is, "I want my money back, deal the cards." Bob's favorite singer was Elvis, but he also enjoyed Conway Twitty and George Jones. His favorite drink was Whiskey but wouldn't refuse any other drink either. He imparted so much wisdom into our lives. The most important thing anyone that knows him has learned is, "You can't roller-skate in a Buffalo Herd!"
Bob loved his grandkids. He had three beautiful granddaughters, Makayla Mason (21), Makenzie Mason (19) and Ava Terbay (14). He was also blessed with one grandson, Robert J. Terbay (18). He loved and was very proud of them in every accomplishment they achieved. To say he was a proud grandpa (Popo) is an understatement.
Bob is survived by his son, Robert Terbay (Michelle), his daughter, Michelle Mason (Kent), and grandchildren Makayla Mason, Makenzie Mason, Robert J. Terbay and Ava Terbay. He's also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is proceeded in death by his wife (Cathy), father (Edward), mother (Julia), brothers (Edward, Cecil and Alvin), and his sister (Nellie).
So, we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. Corinthians 4:18
