Robert “Haywood” Tew, age 73, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital.
Haywood was born on May 9, 1952, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to the late Hazel Tew and William Tew. Also preceded in death were his parents Bill Jackson and Barbara Ratley and a sister Suzanne Jackson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kay Barrentine Tew, with whom he shared a life filled with devotion.
He is survived by his son Rob Tew and wife Angela, and their daughter Caroline; daughter Kelly Apple and husband Matthew, and their daughter Natalie Bolton; and daughter Casey Tew, granddaughter Corrie Spano, and great-grandson Kashmere.
He is also survived by his stepdaughter Brandi Lavertu and husband Kevin, and grandchildren Gaston, Emma Grace, and Ellison.
He is further survived by his siblings Bill Belk, Daniel Jackson, Lorraine Hadley, Billie Jackson Wood, and Daniel Wade Ratley.
Haywood will be remembered for his love of his grandchildren, quick wit and bucket hats. He cherished his roots and friends from Massey Hill.
Haywood adored his shadow and canine companion Miley. He also had a giving heart to many charities.
At this time, a service is not planned per Haywood’s request.
