Robert Alan "Bob" Thompson of Castalia died Monday, April 15, 2024.
He was born Sept. 16, 1952, in Marion, to James "Bud" Marion Thompson and Louise French Thompson.
He spent 53 wonderful years married to his high school sweetheart, Portia (Malone) Thompson of Marion. They had two boys, Robert Daniel Thompson of Medina and James Marion Thompson (deceased). He wasn't just their dad, but the kind of person they always hoped to become some day.
Robert is survived by his brother, James (Christie) Thompson of Piqua. The brothers spoke on a daily basis and looked enough alike that people had mistaken them for twins.
His sister, Christy (James) Missler of Bellevue, preceded him in death. Taking trips to Amish country was a favorite thing they liked doing together. He was also preceded in death by his uncle, Roy French, who he enjoyed spending his fishing and hunting times with. Bob and Portia shared a close bond with Brant and Brogan Kuhn of Tiffin and considered them their grandsons. Many nieces and nephews will miss their Uncle Bob.
Bob, as everyone knew him, graduated from Margaretta High School in Castalia and served in U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. He was a skilled tool and die maker for General Motors for 37 years. He is remembered by all who knew him as a big gun enthusiast and an outdoorsman. He had a great sense of humor and everyone he knew was always up for a good "Bob joke."
Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, Ohio, 44824. Bob's services will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Castalia Cemetery.
Memorial gifts can be made to the family's preferred charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
