Robert Tomonto

1957 - 2025

Robert (Bob) James Tomonto died on September 21, 2025 peacefully in his home after a long battle with esophageal cancer. He leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Anne, his two sons, Matthew and Anthony, and a large extended family.

Born on August 24, 1957 in Mt. Kisco, New York to Irene and James R. Tomonto, Bob spent his early years in Westchester county, attending Archbishop Stepinac High School for three years before moving to Miami, Florida with the rest of his family in 1974. He graduated from Immucalata-LaSalle High School in 1975.

Deciding to become an engineer like his father and grandfather, Bob studied mechanical engineering at the University of Miami (B.S., 1979) and the Georgia Institute of Technology (M.S., 1981). Throughout his career, he performed various roles in the nuclear power industry and worked for 35 years at Florida Power and Light (FPL) until his retirement.

The oldest of five siblings, a devoted husband, father of two, and uncle to many, Bob was always a family man. Alongside his wife Anne, he was involved for more than 40 years in Catholic marriage and family ministries, such as Engaged Encounter retreats, Covenant Experience weekends, and Christian Family Movement (CFM). They served together on the CFM national board and as president couple for several years.

Bob will be remembered for his steadfast dependability and commitment to his community. He loved his family, supported his friends, and held an unshakeable faith to the end.

A wake service will be held Monday, September 29th, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Stanfill Funeral Home (10545 South Dixie Hwy Miami, FL).

A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, September 30th, at 11:00 a.m. in the main sanctuary of St. Louis Catholic Church (7270 SW 120th Street Pinecrest, FL). A reception will follow in the church assembly hall.
